I want to:

Learn more about adopting Open Education Resources and No Cost (library) materials for my course.

Kate Holvoet is the library liaison for OER, and she can help you find OER and No Cost (library) materials appropriate for your course, and help you get in contact with your library subject liaison.

Find OER and No Cost (NC) Materials

The library has a guide to finding OER materials called Open Educational Resources (OER) @ SDSU for Faculty. The guide covers finding ebooks, Open Access journals, images, audio, video, and more. Faculty can also contact Kate for assistance finding relevant OER.

Learn how to get the NC (no cost) footnote added to my course in the Class Schedule.

If you are using exclusively No Cost and or OER course materials, AND your course has no other fees associated with it such as lab fees, you can have the NC footnote added to your course by contacting your departmental course materials coordinator, or by contacting Ben Compton at Aztec Bookshops. Please be prepared to report the title of the materials you are using, and whether they are No Cost or OER. If you don’t know who your course materials coordinator/buyer is, contact Kate.

Get help adding my OER and No Cost materials to my course in the learning management system (LMS).

Kate Holvoet can assist you with adding the right links to library materials into Blackboard and Canvas (it’s sometimes hard to figure out what the right link is). The Faculty Instructional Technology (FIT) Center can assist you with other technical aspects of adding material to your course in the LMS.

Get help adapting the format of an OER and to have the OER made accessible.

Montezuma Publishing assists faculty by reformatting OER materials. They can rearrange content, crop content, and add material that faculty provide to an existing OER and ensure that the resulting PDF looks professional and cohesive. Once the reformatting is complete, Montezuma Publishing passes the file on to the Student Ability Success Center (SASC) to be made accessible by screen readers.

Learn about the Immediate Access program

The Immediate Access program provides discounted digital textbooks to students before school begins to ensure that students are “Day One Ready.” Students can opt out any time before the drop/add period ends. So far, about 95 percent of students remain opted-in thus saving over $3 million dollars. Contact Ben Compton to see if your textbook qualifies for the Immediate Access program.
